Lecture by Lukáš Kubín + screening of the film The Mummy (1999)
(The lecture will be in Czech language and the film in English with Czech subtitles)
What if everything we think we know about ancient Egypt—its tombs, treasures, and even curses—is not just history, but a mirror reflecting our own desire for eternity? Did you know that in Victorian England, mummies were used as medicine and even as fertilizer?
Egypt gave birth to the concept of eternity. Its monuments, gods, and myths became the foundation of our cultural imagination about power, death, and miracles. This civilization has survived for millennia and still fascinates us today with its belief in the afterlife, its ability to build on a scale of time and space, and its obsession with leaving a mark that will last forever.
Lukáš Kubín – Orientalist, historian, traveler, Japanologist.
